As spring approaches the opening of the fishing season is a long-awaited moment amongst fishermen, who make the most of the occasion to discover and rediscover the streams and rivers in the department.

Trout fishing

March and April are the most propitious months for restocking trout (around fifty local associations restock trout for the opening of the season) and then until the end of June for wild brown trout.
Please note: pay heed to the regulations, in particular with regard to catch-and-release: 23 cm for rainbow trout and 25 cm for brown trout; 10 catches per day, per fisherman.
Fishing is not permitted half an hour prior to sunrise, nor half an hour after sunset.
On the Mayenne federation for Fishing and Protection of the Aquatic Environment site there is sound advice with regard to preparing for the opening of the trout fishing season .

Fishing breaks

Take advantage of the opening of the season to enjoy a fishing break in Mayenne in gîtes and chalets labelled "Mayenne pêche" [Mayenne fishing], situated by the water; these are specially equipped to provide a warm welcome for a fisherman and his family.
We have chosen holiday locations for you that meet the specific needs of fishing enthusiasts and also ensure a level of comfort suitable for all the family.
Located in the immediate proximity of a fishing spot, they are, in most cases, equipped with a fishing room containing a sink, a rack and a refrigerator.
The owners, most of whom are fishermen themselves, give a particularly warm welcome to those who share their passion.
And if you wish, call on a professional fishing guide to accompany you and provide you with personalised advice: re. mastering fishing techniques, knowledge and discovering key areas ...

Chalet village entirely devoted to fishing

The holiday and fishing village of Villiers-Charlemagne is a paradise for fishermen according to those who have stayed there.
Sitting in comfort on the terrace of your chalet, you can fish in the lake in perfect peace and quiet!
The lake is never short of fish: the Mayenne federation for Fishing and the Protection of the Aquatic Environment re-stocks it every year.
So pikeperch, pike, carp and bottom feeders are always there.
All you have to do is catch them.

A pisciculturist welcome

A welcome from professional pisciculturists  in a superb fishing site is what Aurélie and Jean-Claude Gandon offer in Montjean. In a well-preserved natural environment you can be assured of good quality fish breeding and you may fish for trout in the stream and the lake (trout releases).
