The village boasts two magnificent churches which are well worth a detour:
Notre–Dame is an 11th century Romanesque church where visitors will find an array of altarpieces, including one of the oldest in Mayenne.
Saint Pierre , a Merovinginan church listed as a historic monument, is one of Mayenne’s oldest religious monuments.
It was built between the 8th and 10th centuries on the site of a Merovingian cemetery.
All that is left of the building is the choir, one transept, a bell tower and the first section of a nave.
Nowadays, entrance to building is through a large chapel decorated with wall paintings, which was appended in the 16th century.

Saulges also offers visitors a natural heritage that is truly surprising.
In its winding valleys you will find a series of caves, including the “Rochefort” and “Margot” caves which are open to the public.
Types of vegetation that are uncommon in the west of France have thrived here, including moor and dry grassland, boxwood and juniper.
As you leave the village, there is a footpath to the canyon, where you may run into the aurochs that have been introduced to the site!
A little further on in Saint-Céneré you will find the hermitage of the man who came to evangelise the area in the 7th century.
