The Robert Tatin museum

The story of a singular artist, Robert Tatin.

First a carpenter, before travelling the world during which time he met Cocteau, Giacometti and Prévert, Tatin refused to be locked-up in academic work, preferring to touch the real word and get closer to nature.

A Mayenne artist

Tatin decided to settle in Mayenne, where he was born. Over the course of twenty years, he built monumental works of art with poetic names such as the Garden of Meditations, the Dragon, the Butterfly Refuge and the Nineteen Giants…

Art, mysteries and symbols

To fully understand the language of the artist, a guided tour really is the best way.
The enthusiastic guides really enjoy sharing their precise and detailed knowledge of the artist’s intentions with the public, who always leave fascinated and wanting more!

A living collection

In 2019, the Robert Tatin museum celebrated its 50th anniversary.
The sculptures are still as impressive as ever, their artistic expression multiplied by creative workshops for children, with concerts and visiting artists in residence.
Around the museum you can visit a garden of nearly ten acres where you’ll find what the artist was looking for – harmony with nature in creation.

You may find the goal of all art here – to reveal our true nature to us!
