International fame
The world-famous artist Louis Derbré came to live at his family home at Ernée in 1989, and continued to practise his art there until his death in 2011.
Creator of the “Peace Memorial” in Hiroshima (six monumental sculptures, five metres in height), Derbré always strove to make art accessible to all.
A sculptor and metalworker, Derbré had a studio and foundry where he created works of art from bronze, marble and stone. He held exhibitions all over the world but his attachment to Mayenne was always clearly in evidence.

A Cultural Centre
The Louis Derbré Centre in Ernée features a monumental sculpture garden that extends over 7 hectares.
The Centre also has an open-air theatre designed by Louis Derbré, an exhibition hall and a training centre for artists and craft workers.
